The Beginning of a Jewelry Journey

It started with some components from a broken piece of vintage jewelry that I held on to from back in the day when I owned & operated a resale/consignment shop with my sister & my mother. I actually have lots of broken jewelry from that time but these pieces were special & I knew that I wanted to create something from them. Fast forward to just a few of years ago; I starting to play with these beautiful vintage jewelry elements. It didn’t take long; I had some vintage chain, some jump rings & ear wires from a previous crafting endeavor. Low & behold a beautiful necklace emerged, then matching earrings! This was my first artisan jewelry creation. I thought it was pretty good; I wanted to make more! This is where a journey of creating vintage-inspired, one-of-a-kind jewelry began for me. I searched for techniques, tools, information & supplies; curating vintage jewelry & components, teaching myself along the way. More jewelry quickly emerged - I was hooked, making one piece after another! As I was making & wearing all of these wonderful jewelry creations it became clear that this was a passion that I wanted to pursue. I fondly named my new business A Silk Purse, (the name of our long-ago closed resale/consignment brick & mortar store). It's a name that I have always loved; it's attached to appropriate folklore, fond memories and all things vintage. I opened an Etsy shop in 2014; now here I am - continuing to evolve & grow in this creative process & jewelry journey. Please stay tuned . . .
