Many of us are finding lots of things to do at home such as cleaning, purging, organizing & whatever else we never seemed to have time for in the past. Now, at least for the time being, we have no excuses!
I came across an old hat of mine hanging under a bunch of other stuff in my 3rd floor storage area as I was doing just that. It was in desperate need of a good dusting & steam cleaning for sure but it was not something that I was willing to part with, at least not yet.
I also came across an old feature article from a local newspaper about A Silk Purse. “The Shop” as we referred to it had just opened & we were getting some free community buzz.
“The Shop" was a retail collaboration between me, my sister & my mom, circa 1996 to 2000.
I write a little bit about the history of A Silk Purse in my “About” page here on the website, but I thought it would be fun to share some tangible evidence of this piece of history that is so close to my heart & “The Shop” that is the namesake of my current jewelry brand.
My sister Mame is standing next me & my late mom Tillie is farthest to the left. Notice a much younger me & I am wearing the hat! We strategically have our hands on a few vintage treasures that are included in the shot.
I am finding that during this unprecedented time with so much uncertainty, about the present & the future, a reflection of the past just seems to come naturally.
I find myself wanting to reconnect from a space within to people, places & memories that I am most familiar with that give me comfort. I am reminded of who I am, where I have come from, what I have been through & what I am capable of.
We are all being forced to dig deep for strength, positivity & hope now more than ever.
Even though world is forever changed due to the current event(s), the best of humanity is showing up in a big way & it's certain that we have each other's back.
Along with a Reflection of the Past, may we find Strength in the Present & look to Hope for the Future. Stay safe & be well my friends!
With timeless jewelry that’s always in fashion -
Warm regards,
Suzanne
