“Write it on your heart that every day is the best day in the year.” - Ralph Waldo Emerson
I love this excerpt from Ralph Waldo Emerson’s poem “Write it on your heart”.
His beautiful words continue as follows:
“He is rich who owns the day, and no one owns the day who allows it to be invaded with fret and anxiety.
Finish each day and be done with it. You have done what you could.
Some blunders and absurdities, no doubt crept in.
Forget them as soon as you can, tomorrow is a new day; begin it well and serenely, with too high a spirit to be cumbered with your old nonsense.
This new day is too dear, with its hopes and invitations, to waste a moment on the yesterdays.”
In spite of everything that is going on around us, a glimmer of hope sparkles in these words; they warm my heart.
Maybe they will inspire us to do what we can, give what we can in order to try and make the world a better place in 2024. And in the process we have the opportunity to experience love, joy and connection that will certainly come from our geniune intentions.
Rather than letting the weight of the world bring us down, why not lend a hand to a neighbor, give to a local charity, smile and say hello to the grocery store clerk.
Every act of kindness, large or small has an impact on someone or something. Each and every one of us has the ability to make a difference. Each and every one of us can take part to bring some measure of good into the world around us.
